Biography
A native of North Carolina, Dr. Caton attended the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill Undergraduate and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. After he received his general surgical training at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, Louisiana, Dr. Caton acquired additional training in the subspecialty of Colon and Rectal Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Caton discusses both medical management and surgical interventions with patients with bowel dysfunction. When appropriate, he utilizes minimally invasive surgical approaches to reduce pain and get folks back to their daily lives faster. Family experiences with colon cancer and inflammatory bowel disease helped focus Dr. Caton’s practice and drive the compassionate care that he strives to provide to all his patients.
Dr. Caton performed the first robotic-assisted Trans-Anal Minimally Invasive Surgery (R-TAMIS) in the Wilmington area in January 2021. TAMIS, which is traditionally performed laparoscopically, is a challenging minimally invasive surgical procedure to remove large polyps and early cancers in the lower rectum.
